Seattle Prep hosts top teams from the West Coast for second
annual tournament sponsored by Slalom Consulting
The second annual Slalom Slam holiday basketball tournament
hosted by Seattle Prep Tuesday, December 27, and runs through
Thursday, December 29. Presented by Slalom Consulting, the
tournament is the first of its kind for the Seattle area and boasts
eight outstanding teams representing Washington, Oregon,
California, and Nevada.
Prep President Kent Hickey says, “Holiday high school basketball
tournaments are known for drawing local sports enthusiasts, talent
scouts, and media attention. This one in particular is exciting for
the local area because it features some of Seattle’s top basketball
programs and pits them against competing teams from out of State. I
have no doubt our local teams are up to the challenge!”
The tournament will feature a mix of public and private schools.
The 2011 tournament will feature girls' teams while the 2012
tournament will feature top boys programs. The tournament will
continue to rotate boys and girls teams on alternating years.
“Slalom Consulting is headquartered in Seattle and the
sponsorship reflects our commitment to supporting the local
community,” said Brian Jacobsen, general manager for Slalom
Seattle. “The Slalom Slam is a great way to showcase Seattle’s
basketball talent—Seattle Prep is a great partner and we’re excited
to be the headline sponsor of the event.”
Games will take place in McHugh gymnasium on the Seattle Prep
campus at 2:30pm, 4:00pm, 6pm, and 7:30pm Tuesday-Thursday.
Participating teams include:
Jesuit High School (Portland), who won the 6A
2011 State championship in Oregon. They will be led by a couple of
D1 signees: Senior Rachel Mendelsohn signed to play at St Louis and
Senior Jean Parker at West Point.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (San Francisco) is
expecting to have a strong 2011-2012 season. Returning players
include three starters led by 5-11 Senior Ann Marie Sequiera, who
averaged 6 rebounds per game last season.
Cleveland High School (Seattle) coach
Wheeler-Smith says this is a special team with amazing
student-athletes who believe in themselves and have set goals that
they are willing to work hard to accomplish.
Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma) finished 6th in State
(4A) last season and with key returnees Nyzhe Primas, Nakaria
Petty, and Ionna Price will be strong again this season. They will
be trying to add to the State tournament run by going for their 7th
straight.
Bishop Manogue High School (Reno) will be led
by two junior guards, Gabbi Concepcion and Kelly Lujan as well as
senior center Tallia Jim. With a record of 21 and 5 last season,
they are looking forward to another great year.
Franklin High School (Seattle) girls will be a
top contender this season with a solid returning team that made a
second half run last year, missing the State tournament by one
game.
Rainer Beach (Seattle) has been in rebuild mode
and will utilize a total team effort to make a run in the Metro
division this year.
Seattle Prep (Seattle) returns a team that
gained a lot of experience throughout Metro, District, and State
2010-2011 and returns four starters this season. Prep plays an
up-tempo defensive game and should show they have the ability to
finish games this season.
