The Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), a national network of free, open-enrollment, college preparatory public schools dedicated to underserved communities, needed to help its teachers and administrators facilitate information sharing across almost 100 schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving 27,000 students. The organization needed to integrate its SharePoint home page with an existing curriculum sharing resource, BetterLesson.com, and the site needed to be user-friendly in order to ensure wide adoption among busy teachers and staff. In addition, KIPP needed to align its intranet and logo with its rebranding strategy.
Slalom and the KIPP Foundation met to clarify and define requirements for its intranet, analyzing current file sharing capabilities and identifying gaps in the existing system. Slalom worked in partnership with the foundation's technology team to develop, test, and deploy the new environment on a SharePoint platform. In addition, the site was developed to be consistent with KIPP’s rebranding guidelines. Finally, Slalom indoctrinated the KIPP Foundation team to ensure continued development and manageability of the site.
Slalom implemented the design elements, site architecture, navigation, functionality, and customization based on the SharePoint 2007 platform, with ASP.NET, C#, CSS, and XSLT. The re-launched site is now on-brand and reaches across KIPP's entire network of 1,500 teachers. By making content easier to search and integrating it with the existing curriculum site, BetterLesson.com, this improved resource makes interaction and collaboration easier for both busy educators and staff.
