The Challenge

The rapid evolution of digital and video music publication and distribution forces music companies to respond quickly and capitalize on new opportunities, especially in the face of shrinking margins. One of the world's largest recording companines, with over 1,000 employees, and joint ventures and licensees in 77 countries, needed to be able to adapt its data management systems to industry changes while maintaining strong relationships with artists, engineers, and distributors.

Our Approach

Slalom evaluated the current state of the digital delivery process and recommended a new IT architecture that was functionally componentized to eliminate unnecessary dependencies, while tightly integrated and featuring a unified user interface, for distributing music along the supply chain, from recording and editing, to assembly and delivery. Over four weeks, the Slalom team prototyped and built a future-state digital delivery preparation architecture in line with the client’s long-term strategy. The prototype demonstrated how Slalom could help the company reduce risk and save time by troubleshooting components of the system, rather than the site as a whole.

The Results

Slalom provided the client visibility into the flow of digital music, identifying trouble spots on its way to consumers. Slalom completed the project in three months, whereas a competitor had unsuccessfully been working on the project for years. The solution allowed the client to update changes on the back-end in order to integrate new business processes as they changed, while maintaining the same intuitive user interface.
