USOC Pressbox

The Challenge

With the 2010 Winter games approaching in Vancouver, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) wanted to give their Pressbox site a much needed facelift.

The USOC needed to:

  • Provide global media with real time information on Team USA athletes and events
  • Create a site with a unique brand but with similar feel as teamusa.org
  • Develop a portal that allowed non-technical users to create and manage content

Our Approach

Slalom redesigned and rebuilt the site from scratch, improving ease-of-use, navigation, social network integration and content management. Our approach included:

  • Integration of SharePoint and Silverlight to provide rich searching and navigation
  • Leverage of our Slalom Cards product to create a dynamic interface for athlete profiles
  • Deep collaboration with multiple stakeholders to maximize project efficiency

The Results

The redesigned USOC PressBox site expands site capabilities, giving journalists better access to news, rich search functionality and Twitter feeds from Team USA athletes.

The new USOC PressBox is now:

  • An integrated part of normal workflow rather than a resource-heavy IT function
  • A rich and up to date information source that is intuitive for all types of users
  • A dynamic news portal that offers social network integration and real time content updates

It’s changed the way we do business, and it’s actually changed the way the media covers us.
