Slalom Mo Bros and Sisters raise $62,533 to help change the face of men’s health

"It takes a brave man to grow a great ‘stache, put himself out there, and talk about men’s health."

Gary Bedell, Slalom user experience designer

Movember raises awareness and money for men’s physical and mental health. Each year, Slalom Mo Bros from around the globe cast aside their razors in the name of charity. From Handlebars to Mutton Chops, our ‘staches raise funds to address some of the biggest health issues faced by men today: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health issues, and suicide.

Last year represented our strongest fundraising effort yet. Slalom’s 211 participants in 17 teams raised over $62,500 for the cause—and grew some pretty amazing works of facial art in the process.

This will be our eighth year participating, and we've raised over $204,000 for men's health to date. These funds directly benefit men’s health research, treatment, and health advocacy groups such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the LIVEStrong Foundation. Nearly .80 of every dollar donated goes to these organizations. Last year, globally, there were 485K participants in 21 countries, raising $61.1M.

Team Spotlight: Team Mo Mojo

Since 2011, user experience designer Gary Bedell has led Slalom Seattle’s Movember team, Mo Mojo, and works tirelessly to get a team in every Slalom office. He says both men and women, the bold and the tentative, have a place on Mo Mojo. “Whether they’re excited or leery, everyone involved recognizes the opportunity to do good and have fun while they’re at it,” says Bedell. “The mustaches are a great conversation starter, and people at Slalom are really supportive and help spread the word. We raise funds by hosting auctions, poker parties, movie nights, fitness challenges, Happy Hours, Fun Runs—you name it. The Slalom teams get creative and the local communities get involved to make it a super fun, and educational, experience.”
