People Profile - Ray Pitts

Ray Pitts

Practice Area Director

  • Work style
I've always been inquisitive. I've taken things apart to see how they work, and then put them back together. I'm passionate about helping people understand the context and meaning behind the issues that impact them—call it training, change management, or organizational effectiveness.
  • What makes Slalom great?
The people and the culture. Those are more than just buzz words here—Slalom Consulting lives it every day, and guards that culture with extreme vigilance. It is the anti-consulting firm in that we've taken out all of the negative aspects of large consulting (like "up or out," and required activities that de-focus excellent client work), but kept all the positive (like great consultants, having fun, and doing exciting and challenging work).
  • Experience
I spent four years in the oil and gas industry, and another four years in boutique learning consulting. I was with Deloitte Consulting for seven years focusing on the Change and Learning practice, and then spent another seven years as vice president at SumTotal Systems.
  • Education
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Texas.
  • Hobbies
Playing the trumpet, brewing beer, fishing, camping, coaching kids' sports teams, board president of a not-for-profit
