Slalom Achieves Google Cloud Machine Learning Specialization

Seattle, WA – October 18, 2023 – Slalom, the global business and technology consulting company, today announced that it has achieved the Google Cloud Machine Learning Specialization. Through an audit by Google Cloud and a third-party assessor, this achievement signifies that Slalom has demonstrated an established Google Cloud service practice, consistent customer success, and proven technical capabilities within machine learning (ML) as a solution.

This designation is Slalom's fourth specialization for Google Cloud, following previous accolades received for data and analytics, infrastructure, and cloud migration. With this latest milestone, Slalom further demonstrates a commitment to helping customers dream bigger, move faster, and build better tomorrows for all. In the past two years, Slalom has completed 17 machine learning projects across 11 different companies ranging in size from leading global brands to ambitious startups.

The Google Cloud Machine Learning Specialization recognizes Slalom's exceptional proficiency in harnessing the power of machine learning within the Google Cloud ecosystem. This specialization acknowledges the team's in-depth knowledge and experience in creating machine learning models, developing AI-driven applications, and utilizing Google Cloud's advanced tools to derive actionable insights from data.

“We are incredibly proud to have achieved the Google Cloud Machine Learning Specialization," said Steve Sroka, Sr. Director of Slalom’s Google Business. "This accomplishment not only highlights our team's expertise but also reaffirms our dedication to offering our customers advanced machine learning solutions that drive innovation and business growth."

Slalom’s machine learning expertise was evident when working with Hologic. Hologic looked to further advance cervical cytology analysis to aid in disease detection. The Slalom Build team worked to develop a prototype machine learning  algorithm. This prototype could help enable future digital cytology iterations to autonomously detect cancerous or precancerous cells in patient samples.

To train the model, the Slalom Build team and Hologic worked with more than 50,000 images. Building on Google Cloud gave the teams an edge on massive HIPAA compliant data storage and ML research, which helped establish an infrastructure capable of processing thousands of images in seconds. The initial tests, the proof-of-concept algorithm exceeded expectations with ~70% relative sensitivity compared to human review.

“Our partners like Slalom are helping customers accelerate their digital transformations with Google Cloud products and services,” said Kim Lasseter, Global Director, Partner Advantage Program Design & Strategy, Google Cloud. “Slalom has achieved the Machine Learning Specialization, recognizing their  high level of technical expertise and experience adding value within Google Cloud.”
