Where AI meets people

When a hedge fund needs to move billions in bonds or an energy company wants to lock in oil prices, they turn to TP ICAP. The global intermediary facilitates trillions of dollars in trades each year. Every deal depends on people—brokers connecting opportunities, analysts spotting trends, and engineers keeping things running behind the scenes.

AI promised to make their work faster and more efficient. But leaders at TP ICAP hit a familiar roadblock: They had the vision and talent, but there wasn’t a clear path to turn ideas into real, working solutions.

“The tech isn’t the hard part,” says Richard Fayers, senior director at Slalom. “What companies struggle with is how to structure themselves around it: What skills do you need? What processes? Where does accountability sit? How do you govern AI? That’s the bigger challenge we help solve.”

Together with AWS and Slalom, TP ICAP built what most companies overlook: the foundation that makes AI work, stick, and deliver value at massive scale.

“The Slalom team helped demystify AI for us. But they didn’t just give advice—they rolled up their sleeves and worked side by side with us.”

Getting the foundation right

When TP ICAP started exploring AI, every team had ideas worth testing. But without the people or process to guide them, great ideas stalled at the pilot phase.

“There’s a little bit of blood, sweat, and tears that need to happen up front to get everyone involved and pulling in the right direction,” says Milo Constable, principal consultant at Slalom. “But once you’ve built that foundation, the benefits are huge.”

In just a few weeks, we designed TP ICAP’s own AI & Innovation Lab to take AI from strategy through to delivery. For the first time, AI has a home, with a team that owns the work, guides priorities, and helps every function find a place to start.

If you’re in compliance and wondering what AI means for your work, you have people to turn to. If you’re a broker with an idea, you have a process to bring it to life. And now, TP ICAP has a repeatable model—an “AI factory”—that keeps generating value, whether in London, New York, Belfast, or Singapore.

“We’ve gone from isolated experiments to a connected, governed AI Lab,” says Shahen Bokhari, AI product portfolio lead at TP ICAP. “That shift has completely changed our delivery speed and mindset.”

AI for everyone

Most tech projects live in IT. This one reached the entire company. Our team ran workshops across legal, finance, operations, sales, trading, and engineering. Each session generated 20 to 30 use cases. Teams pitched their ideas Dragons’ Den style. But the question was never “Can we build this?” It was “Will it make an impact?”

High-impact, low-effort ideas moved to the front because they could prove value fast. The rest went into a backlog. We also helped TP ICAP create an employee-driven intake process that gives everyone a chance to shape the AI roadmap. The Lab decides which ideas to tackle first based on business priorities.

In London, TP ICAP converted a former meeting room into a hub where employees could drop in, experiment with tools, and see AI in action. “We made AI everyone’s business,” says Bokhari. “Once people saw what it could do for them, the word spread fast.”

From pilots to production

While one Slalom team built the foundation for AI, another ran pilots across sales, trading, legal, and engineering—all powered by AWS GenAI services:

  • Faster prospect screening: Before, manually researching what 15,000 potential clients traded would have taken two analysts two full years of work. Now, AI does it in hours—delivering a 5,004% ROI and freeing brokers to focus their attention where it counts.

  • Sales outreach that lands meetings: Salespeople have plenty of leads but not enough time for the kind of personal touch that converts. AI profiles each lead’s holdings, identifies three to five reasons they’re a strong prospect for TP ICAP, and uses those insights to draft tailored emails.

  • Automated test generation: Engineers used to spend two days writing test cases for every software release. We built a solution that does it in 15 minutes, and the team is already expanding it across the delivery lifecycle.

“Slalom brought the structure and pace to move ideas into production,” says Bokhari. “And AWS gave us the agility to innovate quickly while meeting every security and compliance requirement.”

The first three solutions to reach production are projected to generate millions in value.

Building global momentum

Across TP ICAP, people are experimenting with AI and discovering what it can do for their work. The workshops and idea form sparked more than 200 use cases from every corner of the business. Nearly 30 are now live or in progress, including a revenue-generating solution that helps sales teams match the right products to the right clients.

To keep the momentum going, TP ICAP, AWS, and Slalom hosted an AI Roadshow in the London office—a full-day event with demos, training, and AWS experts. It was such a success, we did it again in New York.

“People were genuinely curious—coming up, asking questions, and being wowed,” says Constable. Later, when Bokhari took the stage at the AWS Summit in London to share TP ICAP’s journey, it was clear how far the company had come. “She spoke with such confidence, passion, and authority. That’s when I knew we’d done something really great together.”

“AI used to feel like something done to people—now it’s something they own. That empowerment, that sense of ownership—that’s what I’m most proud of.”
