Slalom Achieves 100% Renewable Energy Target Five Years Ahead of Schedule

Seattle, June 20, 2025 - Slalom has achieved its goal of being 100% powered by renewable energy in its operations, five years ahead of the 2030 target announced in its 2020 goals. This milestone underscores Slalom's commitment to sustainability and its proactive approach to environmental stewardship.

In alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Slalom made a commitment five years ago to minimize emissions generated by its operations and supply chains. Slalom completed its transition to 100% renewable energy by moving to renewable energy plans in offices worldwide where they were available. In the locations where renewable energy plans were not available, Slalom has purchased high quality, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from wind or solar sources that are either Green-e® certified or carry the EKOenergy ecolabel. These certifications ensure the environmental integrity of the renewable electricity and prevent double-counting.

"At Slalom, it's our collective responsibility to be great stewards of our planet,” said Brad Jackon, CEO of Slalom. “That's why we're both advancing our own sustainability efforts and scaling our expertise to help our customers do exactly the same"

Slalom's efforts extend beyond its own operations. Teams worldwide are actively involved in environmental initiatives, from cleaning rivers, protecting habitats, and connecting with the ecosystems they depend on. Slalom also worked with partners and customers to align on shared values and engage in responsible supplier programs.

Moreover, Slalom multiplies its impact through its clients. The firm has helped the Forest Stewardship Council protect millions of acres, assisted Kiwi Harvest in reducing food waste in New Zealand, and co-created VML’s Vanishing Emails solution, that automates the deletion of expired promotional emails from inboxes, thereby reducing the demand for data storage, its CO2 intensity, and setting a new standard for sustainable digital communications.

"Vanishing Emails is such a no-brainer of an idea; people wonder why it hasn’t been done before. In fact, it took a lot of creative brains partnering across sustainability research, experience design, and AI engineering to make it work. With more global brands signing up to join this movement, we can really make a significant difference by reducing the impact of expired promotional emails," said Bas Korsten, chief creative officer of Innovation at VML.

Slalom’s Commitment to Reducing Problematic Plastics

Slalom has also launched a new commitment to eliminate problematic and unnecessary plastics from its operations by 2030, aligning with the Global Plastics Pact. This initiative, driven by internal waste audits and sustainability goals, includes transitioning to reusable and compostable alternatives, revising procurement policies, and fostering a culture of reuse across its offices. With early success in regions like Australia and New Zealand, Slalom is demonstrating that meaningful environmental change is both achievable and essential.

"At Slalom, taking environmental action is also taking business action, preserving the longevity of business operations given the planetary constraints we have," said Meagan Breidert, Director of Sustainability & Impact at Slalom.
